I'm Scared

Hey Guys,

I have to tell you guys that I am more afraid now then at any other point in my life. I believe that we are literally watching the death of our great country.

I have been listening to Glen Beck, and Sean Hannity lately and had a number of discussions with my family about this whole bailout package that was passed about socialized health care and every other stupid thing the government is doing at the moment, and I honestly think that in the next 10 years the capitalistic, free United States of America will cease to exist. I think before I comeback off my mission that the government will ripping my gun out of my hand (I would like to see them try, I am willing to use it before I give it to them). I was watching Sean Hannity the other day and they had political analyst on there and he was saying "If this socialized health care bill passes, it will domino down until, our children (meaning us) will be able to tell our children or grandchildren how we remember what it was like to live in America when men were free."

Ladies and gents these are last days of which the prophets of old have prophesied would come there are a lot of scary things happening in the world and whats makes me even more scared is this just the beginning, According to the prophesies this is good compared to what we are about to see.

Now that I have doomed and gloomed us all (sorry I am just very scared.) The prophet Thomas S. Monson, this last confrence, said:

It would be easy to become discouraged and cynical about the future—or even fearful of what might come—if we allowed ourselves to dwell only on that which is wrong in the world and in our lives. Today, however, I’d like us to turn our thoughts and our attitudes away from the troubles around us and to focus instead on our blessings as members of the Church. The Apostle Paul declared, “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”.....My beloved brothers and sisters, fear not. Be of good cheer. The future is as bright as your faith.

This quote really helps me be happy, even though the world is going to pot very quickly. And I want to close by quoting D&C 123:17:

Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed.

  1. See Jeremy, I'm not crazy. Remember back when we were sitting in the High School library and I was trying to convince you that maybe things in the world were a little.. 'off'?

Funny thing too, I'm watching Mel Gibson's "Conspiracy Theory" right now. Ha!

  2. Sean Hannity? That "You're a Great American" bloke who loves to hear himself talk?

Sorry, I just can't stand listening to a guy who won't listen to anyone else's point of view, and every time I've tuned in to the Sean Hannity show he's talking to some caller and it goes like this:

Caller: "Sean, you're a really smart guy. I love to listen to you."

    Hannity: "You're a great American."

Caller: "It's just that I think there are some other sides to this issue that maybe -"

Hannity: "That's because you're an idiot. You've been brainwashed by those communist liberals who secretly eat babies and hide under your bed to make sure you don't try to express your freedom too much. Now, as any intelligent person could have seen, I am right. Let me tell you some more about my right-ness..."

  3. Jessica,

You are right about Hannity to a point he is a little proud, and he has a very low acceptance level for dumb. But most of the time the liberal who is calling is an idiot, and he says it like it is.

As well you have to look at from stand point, you here the other guys view all day, everyday from the liberal infested media. And he says things that you will never here from them but is still nonetheless a fact. And for the record i have concede a point before, its rare but he has done it.

But yes is he very biased and very proud, but i think he doing a great work that needs to be done.

  5. Jeremy,

I can see why the actions of the government could make anyone scared. Because you are right it is just going to get worse. But, it's not going to fall into communism as of yet.

The Church will hold up the government, even if it is by a thread.

Oh, I liked your quote from President Monson.

Faith is the opposite of Fear. And so if we look with fear toward the future, then it will be dark. But if we look to the future with faith light will crowd out the dark.

  6. Jeremy,

I'll never hesitate to admit that there are a lot of idiots in the world, the only thing that annoys me about Hannity and everyone else in this blazingly red state is when they assume that being a liberal automatically qualifies a person for idiocy.

If there's one thing I learned from College Writing it's to give every opinion a fighting chance. I can't listen to Sean Hannity because he won't listen to anyone else. He's a fear-monger and occasionally a hate-monger: just like anyone who's too far right OR left. Sure he uses facts, but facts are not nearly as concrete as we believe them to be. There are people who can and do use facts to prove that the world is flat. Any point can be "proven" if you're determined enough to see the facts your own way.

And I wouldn't be arguing about the "liberal infested media." You live in Utah, Jeremy Chandler. Every newspaper you read REALLY IS black, white, and RED all over.

  7. Does any of it matter...? We know for a FACT that everything is going to "collapse" etc. I agree with Raymond... America's main purpose was to foster an environment where the gospel could be restored, and that has happened. We. don't. need. to. worry. No matter what happens to this country as long as the church/it's members hold true and stand up for what they know is right then the light we've shed is guaranteed to continue spreading and we need not fear Satan's corrupting influence - even if it is infiltrating every aspect of life outside of this gospel. Things are going to get downright disgusting, but we don't need to make it worse by popping off.

Sorry if this is totally off. I'm in a bit of a bother this morning...

  8. all the news papers being black, white and RED all over are kidding me, have you read the Salt Lake tribune? And even if the news papers are red, that is great and all, but the local news papers only have an influence if people read them and the majority of people just watch the news now instead of reading so that means nothing. And they can only influence people, and election in our area so it does nothing for the rest of the country, where the liberal infested media is king.

  9. What exactly is it that you hate so much about liberals? Are you sure you're not just upset because the brave, galant, wonderful Republicans no longer have a monopoly? Did it bother you when it was conservative-infested media? Because I'm not sure if you're upset because the media is biased or just because it isn't biased in your favor.

  10. Jessica, Jessica, Jessica (said while shaking his head.)

Its not that I hate liberals, one of my favorite people of all time is hard core liberal. And most of the time he has a point. But their points generally sacrifice the good for the majority of the population for the good of one or two poor unfortunate souls. Thats generally why I am against liberals.

And about the Republicans not having a monopoly, they have never had the monopoly they have always been greatly out numbered by liberals on the television. On the radio fine they have a monopoly, always have, and if the liberals have their way they will shut that down just as fast as possible. Now remind me what my first amendment rights are..... I do think one of is....ohh freedom of speech.

I am upset at the fact that Bill clinton gets caught in a scandal and the mainstream media just says what he does in private is his business but, there was a idaho senator who happened to be a conservative who was caught in a scandal and I heard about for 6 months afterward. The double standard upsets me greatly.

I have no problem with others sharing their opinions, a matter of fact I encourage it. A good friend has told me "I have never learned something from someone I agreed with." The problem is, people are like sponges, sucking in everything anyone ever tells them. They don't think and say what do I believe, is this guy feeding me a load of crap or is there some validity to what he is saying.

Jessica no matter how much you want to deny it, it is a generally an accepted fact that the media is more liberal then conservative. And because of that, and because people are sponges we have an complete Marxist idiot as our president.

  11. Heya friends, slow down!
I'm sitting here reading your back-and-forth comments and I can tell that each one of you is becoming slightly frustrated with the other's opinion.

Cheesy as it sounds, remember that you are both good friends, you're on the same team. Knowing both of you, I don't think you actually disagree as much as your comments would make it seem.

I understand the point that both of you are trying to make. Jessica is saying that some radio talk-show hosts can be really idiotic and closed-minded about things. She's right, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and others can be very sensationalistic at times. Though I think Jeremy is trying to say that those same hosts are broadcasting opinions that don't usually make it into mainstream news. These same opinions are just as important to seeing both sides of an issue as any others. While it is true that local news sources are slightly more conservative than other papers we should keep in mind that most news stories and articles come from/are written by Associated Press syndicated journalists. A near-monopoly, if you will, which is much more liberal than most of our family-based values.

You would be a fool if you never stopped to consider all sides of an issue. But often times people excuse themselves from taking a stand by what they believe to be right. People fail to decide who's side they are on.

I believe when Jeremy talks of liberals he isn't moping over the Republican vs. Democrat situation. He's talking about the way that the majority of our government is run by people who don't share the same values as traditional God-fearing Americans.

Sadly, God-fearing American values are on their way to extinction. The American Dream is NOT about owning two cars and having money to send your kid to college. The American Dream is about being able to do whatever you want whenever you want to. Before you jump on me for writing what seems to be such a redneck point of view let me explain myself: Those who worked to create our great country envisioned a place where a man could be his own master. With the idea that each individual was capable of governing themselves they wrote a Constitution which would protect a person's rights so long as that person's actions didn't infringe upon the rights of others.

Unfortunately we live in a time when the Constitution is blatantly disregarded. Our government has become infiltrated with Gadianton Robbers just as the Book of Mormon warned us. Satan is a tricky devil and he works constantly to undermine the family-based, God-fearing traditional American values --values which are linked directly with the principles of self-governance written by our forefathers in the Constitution.

We've all heard the "Constitution will hang by a thread but be saved by the Church at the last minute" thing. But who IS the Church? Isn't it me and you? Regular sacrament-taking, Spirit-listening me and you?

Ever since we were kids they've been telling us that we were saved for these last days, that we are the reserves in this last hour on the last night. Doesn't that mean it is up to US to save the Constitution? There's a reason we were forewarned of Gadianton Robbers so many times in the Book of Mormon. The Constitution may not be threadbare yet, but if things continue it won't be long (think Patriot Act, Bailouts, Department of Homeland Security, Socialized Healthcare, etc.)

Fact is, we were meant for something great. For some reason God stuck us here in the middle of this ridiculous, messy world. We have a purpose and we would be foolish to sit back and say "We don't need to worry" because to me that sounds a bit like "All is well in Zion."

Alright, I'll get down from my soapbox now. I got carried away, sorry.

  12. Dang, This is probably the most exciting Blog post I've seen in a while....
There's not much more to be said other than thank-you Logan and Beth. You hit it right on the head. And in the end Jeremy the quote you put at the last of this post was the most important part, as well as the scripture from D&C. Thank you for that reminder.
